“Mind the Gap” is a work Cooke developed especially for the exhibition “How to access art” at the Städtische Galerie Villingen Schwenningen 2021.
The oversized pendulum, made of pure brass, swings back and forth in a calm rhythm, blocking visitors’ immediate entry to the exhibition and forcing them to pause in order to await the right moment to pass.
The title “Mind the Gap” is not only a reference to the obvious barrier the pendulum presents, but also a reference to Cooke’s other works that deal with the hurdles of the art world.

„Mind the Gap“ ist eine Arbeit, die Cooke speziell für die Ausstellung „How to access art“ in der Städtischen Galerie Villingen-Schwenningen im Jahr 2021 entwickelt hat.
Das überdimensionale Pendel aus reinem Messing schwingt in einem ruhigen Rhythmus hin und her, versperrt den Besuchern den direkten Zugang zur Ausstellung und zwingt sie dazu, innezuhalten, um auf den richtigen Moment zum Vorbeigehen zu warten.
Der Titel „Mind the Gap“ ist nicht nur ein Verweis auf die offensichtliche Barriere, die das Pendel darstellt, sondern auch ein Verweis auf Cookes andere Werke, die sich mit den Hürden der Kunstwelt auseinandersetzen.
