About the project „Circle of influence“

On April 5th, the collective conducted a two-hour-long live stream in the backyard of the Cité internationale des arts. During the live streamed performance „Circle of influence“, the artists created a spatial drawing of seven circles. The size of the circles is based on the distance recommendations of the health authorities during the national quarantine in Paris. Through a loop hole, the performance thus circumvents the ban on assembly, and at the same time makes the forced social distancing visible.

The shared experience of being thrown back into one’s own sphere and the need for space, for movement, friction, confrontation and self-empowerment together form the motivations for the performance.

About the collective:

Gin Bahc, Claudia Barcheri, Hannah Cooke, Immo Eyser, Pablo Garretón, HyunJin Kim, Vera Kox, Philipp Lange, Dominik Rinnhofer, Jakub Šimčik, Katinka Theis and Lukas Zerbst met at the Cité internationale des Arts in 2020.

Through the ritual of joint dinners and reflections, the artists jointly developed a project for the public space in Paris, which was strongly influenced by the initial restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. The live performance “Circle of Influence” is our response to the changed living conditions.
