FLORA MOMENTUM transforms the public space around Stephanplatz in Karlsruhe into a place of reflection, encounter and healing. The installation combines artistic vision with urban intervention and invites passers-by to experience the urban space in a new way.
At the centre of the work are the lenticular images ‘Postbotanical Growths’ by Hannah Cooke. She uses artificial intelligence to create visionary medicinal plants inspired by traditional plants such as turmeric, garlic and ginkgo. The hybrid plant motifs oscillate between organic naturalness and digital abstraction – depending on the angle of view, new, sometimes strange structures unfold. The lenticular images allow the plants to grow and move as they pass by.
In addition to its poetic and aesthetic effect, the installation also fulfils a design function: it strengthens the visual and atmospheric connection between the southern Waldstraße, Stephanplatz and Ludwigsplatz. With integrated seating, FLORA MOMENTUM also invites people to linger.
The work was conceived by the artist collective ato, which works in Karlsruhe and Berlin.

Eine interdisziplinäre Kunstinstallation von Hannah Cooke, Jannik Lang und Norina Quinte – ato
FLORA MOMENTUM verwandelt den öffentlichen Raum rund um den Stephanplatz in Karlsruhe in einen Ort der Reflexion, Begegnung und Heilung. Die Installation verbindet künstlerische Vision mit städtebaulicher Intervention und lädt Passant*innen dazu ein, den Stadtraum neu zu erleben.
Im Zentrum der Arbeit stehen die Lentikularbilder „Postbotanische Wucherungen“ von Hannah Cooke. Mithilfe künstlicher Intelligenz erschafft sie darin visionäre Heilpflanzen, inspiriert von traditionellen Gewächsen wie Kurkuma, Knoblauch oder Ginkgo. Die hybriden Pflanzenmotive changieren zwischen organischer Natürlichkeit und digitaler Abstraktion – je nach Blickwinkel entfalten sich neue, mitunter fremdartige Strukturen. Die Lentikularbilder lassen die Gewäsche im Vorbeischreiten wachsen und sich bewegen.
Neben ihrer poetischen und ästhetischen Wirkung erfüllt die Installation auch eine gestalterische Funktion: Sie stärkt die visuelle und atmosphärische Verbindung zwischen der südlichen Waldstraße, dem Stephanplatz und dem Ludwigsplatz. Mit integrierten Sitzgelegenheiten lädt FLORA MOMENTUM zudem zum Verweilen ein.
Die Arbeit wurde vom Künstler*innenkollektiv ato konzipiert, das in Karlsruhe und Berlin arbeitet.
